We are getting a better understanding of the history of the countries of Eastern Europe. Today, the cities that had been under Communist rule are still depressed. Rural areas between cities, however, have beautiful, flourishing farms.

Between Rousse and Arbanasi, we saw beautiful sights including fields of canola, steep cliffs, stone bridges and a few goats.

In Arbanasi we walked through the Konstantsalieva House, a wealthy merchant’s home from the 17th century.

Lunch was fun at a touristy restaurant with good food, lively dancing, and loud peacocks!

We made a brief stop in Veliko Tarnovo for some souvenir shopping. We met Todor Kushlev, a charming silversmith who was willing to part with a lovely pair of earrings that he had created.

Our ship sailed on to Vidin. We had beautiful weather the day we hiked to the Belogradchik Fortress in the Balkan Mountains. The rock formations were incredible and the views were amazing!

Romania and Bulgaria had certainly had kept us busy. Next, we cruise to Serbia!
