So far, New England was proving to be a lot of fun. We continued north to York, Maine.

We passed Long Sands Beach and some beautiful homes by the ocean.

So here is Sohier Park (get it?). It was a lovely day to visit the Nubble Lighthouse and its spectacular views over Cape Neddick.

We had hoped to find Fox’s Seafood for a lobster roll lunch, and were delighted to see that it was only steps away from the lighthouse! Not only was the lobster roll great, the blueberry pie, warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, was memorable, too!

So far, the places we had stopped were familiar or at least had familiar names. Then we reached Ogunquit. I think “Ogunquit” means “little slice of heaven.” The town had cute shops, fun restaurants, and beautiful flowers. It was great to walk around and try a bit of everything!

We followed a path called the Marginal Way. The views were lovely.

We saw a painter taking advantage of the beautiful view, and Kenton actually attempted to buy the painting – but it was already sold!

Continuing our road trip, we drove past the ‘Wedding Cake House’ and into Kennebunkport. Kenton recalled that some boat friends from our Great Loop days lived in the area, so we texted them.

Jack and Meredith replied immediately, and invited us to spend the afternoon with them! We got to see their new boat, they bought us a delicious lunch, and then we were given a personal tour of the area. It included a gorgeous stone church, and a view of the Bush family compound (from a distance).

That night was spent in Portland, a city with excellent food in delightful restaurants.

In Boothbay, we explored the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The gardens were pretty, but searching for the Giant Trolls was a terrific adventure! Each troll had their own story and unique talents.

One troll wanted to do yoga, so Kathy joined in!

Pemaquid Point was exciting, with waves crashing from the influence of Hurricane Erin. We were warned to stay off the rocks!

An evening in Camden was lovely and peaceful. It was our last stop before a week in Bar Harbor.
