We left Green Turtle Bay and followed the Barkley Canal to beautiful Kentucky Lake.
This area is called “The Land Between the Lakes” as there is Kentucky Lake on one side and Lake Barkley (and the Cumberland River) on the other.
We crossed into Tennessee and the changing leaves were lovely to see as we made our way to Pebble Isle Marina.
The dockmaster told us a nearby park was having a Civil War battle reenactment. As we walked through the park, we heard “Confederate” troops shooting cannons from a park across the water.
We arrived in time to see “Union” troops return fire (and it was LOUD!).
In the park we explored a cemetery on a hill and army barracks.
The next morning was foggy, but it seemed to be clearing so we headed out – right into thicker fog. A dockhand had said that any fog would clear at the railroad bridge, so we made our way slowly to the bridge – and the fog cleared! Local knowledge is a great thing!
It was another gorgeous day as we cruised past tugs at work, recreational boats enjoying the day, and some friends who needed to be towed (sorry guys!).
The ride got prettier and prettier so Kenton used the drone to get a good photo of our boat.
We spent a quiet night at Clifton Marina and then we cruised through calm waters in the morning as we traveled to Pickwick Lock. A friendly tug captain allowed us to join him (and his three barges) in the lock so we wouldn’t have to wait.
Our last day on Kentucky Lake ended with a lovely sunset at Grand Harbor Marina in Pickwick.
