Revisiting the East Coast as we make our way North:
The last time we visited Amelia Island (during Covid) the town was lovely but quiet. This time it was in full swing with a shrimp festival and lively music scene.
There was no room at the marina, so we anchored out for two nights, and kept an eye out for pirates!
We headed north and made a stop in Savannah, seeing familiar sights and finding a great new bar.
Of course, we visited Rocks on the Roof, a memorable spot from our last visit. Great view!
Some pretty cruising into South Carolina brought us to Beaufort (“BYOO-fert”) and we revisited waterfront swings and favorite restaurants.
Further north, we reached Charleston and visited the pretty, painted homes of ‘Rainbow Row’ and walked the waterfront. Kenton may have found our next boat!
Then on to Georgetown to celebrate Kenton’s birthday at a street fair, with a fun band and some really good food.
More beautiful cruising north (note the ‘Gold Loopers’ burgee on our bow!).
We passed Myrtle Beach and Barefoot Landing. I think the guys on the small boat were on their way to a wedding.
We cruised into North Carolina, seeing some cool boats and pretty sights, and stopping at Deep Point Marina with a delightful restaurant by the docks.
The next day, we had almost finished a long and careful day of cruising (high winds and shallow water) when we were run out of the channel by a careless boater running too fast and head-on with us. For a few minutes we were stuck on high ground.
Captain Kenton got us free, and the boat appeared to be okay. We then continued on to Beaufort (“BOH-fert”). High winds kept us there for a few days longer than planned. We walked the town and visited with friends aboard Oh Henry.
We visited again with Oh Henry at our next stop in Belhaven and then discovered a broken water pipe first thing the next morning. Thank goodness that pipe didn’t burst during the night!
The gray cloud of misfortune finally left us and we enjoyed a pleasant cruise to Coinjock for a fun visit with other boaters, seeing new and old sights. And this time we got the t-shirt!
Heading to the Chesapeake Bay next!
