We stayed on both east and west sides of Lake Oneida, which the locals call the “Forgotten Finger Lake.” This reminded us that we were near wine country! We rented a car and went to explore.

It was a pretty drive to Watkins Glen, at the bottom of Seneca Lake.

We went to the state park and followed a trail that led uphill and down as we worked our way along the gorge.

The waterfalls were pretty spectacular.

We saw some cairns (small, balanced rock piles) along the way, and Kenton added his artistic touch.

We then headed to the eastern side of Seneca Lake to visit some wineries. We were pleased to find more rosé and red wines being offered than we had seen years ago.

Each winery had their own approach to wine tastings. One offered a tasting that included chips, salsa and a piece of chocolate fudge!

It was a fun day and reminded me of a saying: It doesn’t matter if the glass is half empty or half full. Either way, there’s room for more wine!
