Chicago!

“We’re 106 miles to Chicago. We’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses…Hit it.”

What a beautiful city. The approach from Lake Michigan was stunning.

“Come on, oh baby, don’t you wanna go? Come on, oh baby, don’t you wanna go?”

The sun went down and the city lit up. We hadn’t seen Rita & Brian since we waved good-bye at Lake Oneida, but now we were in their home port. They arranged to meet us for a terrific dinner downtown.

“Back to that same old place – Sweet home Chicago.”

Next day they showed up with their dogs and offered us a dinghy tour of the harbor.

“Come on, baby, don’t you wanna go? Hida-hey, baby, don’t you wanna go?”

It was a beautiful ride seeing the waterfront sights, meeting people and getting good information on navigating the lock.

“Back to that same old place – Oh sweet home Chicago.”

The next morning River, Sydney and Steve joined us for a cruise through the heart of the city.

“Well, one and one is two. Six and two is eight. Come on, baby, don’t you make me late.”

Our voyage took us under more than 20 bridges,

“Hida-hey, baby, don’t you wanna go?”

and past countless sights.

“Back to that same old place – Sweet home Chicago.”

Look at that reflection!

“Come on, baby, don’t you wanna go? Oh come on, baby, don’t you wanna go?

The voyage was a blast!

“Back to that same old place – Sweet home Chicago.”

Next we walked into the city to see Millenium Park. We saw Cloud Gate (The Bean), and we watched Crown Fountain spit water for an appreciative crowd.

“Six and three is nine. Nine and nine eighteen.”

We walked some more to see Navy Pier.

“Look there, brother, baby and you’ll see what I seen.”

And that night we walked even more to have a delicious Chicago steak dinner by the river.

“Hida-hey baby, don’t you wanna go?”

The next day we enjoyed a visit to the Art Institute, and we just had to try some authentic deep dish pizza – it was delicious!

“Back to that same old place – My sweet home Chicago.”

Chicago was a highlight to our travels!
