Two months had gone by so quickly, but what an adventure! We spent the last days of our journey through Europe in Naples and Rome.
We stayed in a hotel on the Gulf of Naples, and walked across the street and along the promenade to find lunch in a pretty cafĂ© and to see the Castel dell’Ovo.
A long walk took us through more of the city – at least it was flat!
We window-shopped along Via Toledo and wandered into the Piazza del Plebiscito in the city center.
Nearby, we found the impressive Galleria Umberto.
Evening cocktails on the hotel terrace gave us good views of the harbor. We watched the castle change color as the sun set.
When in Naples, order the pizza! Dinner was fun and it seemed that the whole city came out at night to wander the waterfront. At midnight, there were fireworks over the harbor.
A Naples underground tour, more walking and shopping, and another lovely sunset wrapped up our visit to Naples.
Rome was as beautiful as ever, and we enjoyed a day of good food, sightseeing and shopping.
We spent the last night of our trip in Rome where the Tiber River flows out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. There was one last uke concert and then, “Arrivederci!”
We’ve commented on each country we have visited, and our comment for Italy is that it has incredible food, beautiful places to stay, and wonderful people! It is the country we are likely to visit again and again (or move to once Kenton has picked out a villa in Tuscany).
We’ve taken thousands of photos on this journey, and shared so many in this blog, but the truth is that none of the photos do justice to the truly beautiful countries we have been fortunate to visit in these 60 days.
It was an amazing summer!
