Croatia has a wine region along the Danube that we were curious to explore.

Reaching Ilok, we were taken to a museum to learn the history of this part of the beautiful Croatian countryside.

Overlooking the region was the Ilok Castle. We were told that wine cellars of the castle are among the most famous in Croatia, but we were not invited inside (sigh!).

As a consolation, we were taken to Kast Winery, and toured the winemaking facility with huge tanks, impressive barrels, and ceramic vessels used in their winemaking process. It was fascinating!

Traminac wines (Gewurztraminer-based) are made in this area. We enjoyed a fun tasting of several white wine blends and a red pinot noir.

It was a delightful afternoon for wine nerds like us.

Another country, another happy wine adventure!
