Memorial Day weekend was spent in Oriental, NC, at River Dunes.

The marina had an elegant clubhouse. It was a great place to hang out for the three-day weekend, and we met several fun people who kept coaxing us to move to North Carolina!
The property surrounding the marina was lovely for a bike ride on Monday morning.
On Tuesday, we continued to venture north.
A quick stop in Belhaven was followed by

(Future ice cream shop & winery)
a quick stop in Coinjock. We then set off on a rainy morning to cruise up to Norfolk.

Pungo Ferry bridge
North Landing swing bridge
Centerville Turnpike bridge

Albermarle RR bridge
Chesapeake Expressway bridge
Battlefield bridge
But first we needed to go under (or through) six bridges.

Great Bridge Lock
And then our very first lock! We secured the boat to the lock wall, the water level dropped a few feet, and then we continued on our way…

Veterans bridge
I-64 bridge
Norfolk Southern #7 RR
and Gilmerton bridges

Norfolk Southern #6.8 RR bridge
Jordan bridge and Belt Line RR bridge
…through another seven bridges!
Next stop, Norfolk!
